PS 169Q Bayside
PS 169Q is a Modernist building constructed in 1955, located in the Bay Terrace section of Queens. The existing building forms an L-shaped arrangement, with common spaces arranged on the North side and a three-story classroom wing extending on the East side, with entry from 212th Street. The facility has two organizations: PS 169Q (K-5) and the Bell Academy, IS 294 (grades 6-8). The total current capacity of the school is approximately 750 students.

The project involves the renovation of the existing building to improve various spaces, including a new pre-kindergarten wing, as well as the construction of a new five-story addition that will include a new main entry, new larger dining room and kitchen as well as expansion of the classroom facilities, including art, science and music facilities. The proposed new capacity is 643 students. The total capacity of the redesigned school would be 1,393 students.

The new addition and main entry face 23rd Avenue to the South and form a U-shaped whole with the existing building. One can pass through the main lobby to the play yard, as well as connecting from the new lobby to the existing corridor of the original school. The dining room extends from the composition to express the corner of the site at 23rdAvenue and 212th Street.

The new structure is made of concrete and will be clad in concrete panels. The lower stories continue the brick facades of the existing school and step back at the 3rd floor to articulate the upper floors as a separate entity that houses the Bell Academy.
