519 Eighth Avenue

The project consists of a new building façade and retail space for three new tenants, as well as a new lobby for the main building. The new façade is 21’ 0” high and extends 115’ 0” along 8th Ave and 100’ 0” along 36th Street. The gridded design consists of a two story structure of glass and aluminum with a black granite base. The façade features alternating bands of strongly contrasting vertical and horizontal clear and opaque glass. The opaque glass is brightly colored, and will integrate tenant signage to bring life to the street corner, contrasting with the pre-war masonry construction of the existing building.

The renovated building entrance consists of two new double-height black granite piers and a new glass entrance giving access to the lobby, which is intended to give greater visibility to the lobby from the street. Materials of the interior are stainless steel, marble and terrazzo and are designed with a horizontal emphasis to lead the eye into the building.
