This classic manufacturing building built in the early years of the twentieth century is being transformed into a premier office building. As part of that process we have designed a renovation of the main lobby, which stretches through the block from 19th to 20th streets.
Some elements of the original design were retained, most notably the classical cast iron detailing around the elevators. The new design calls for restoring this historical material and contrasting it with modern elements, including a faceted illuminated front desk of polypropylene, granite and bronze, striated polypropylene back lit wall panels, and new lighting, security and finishes throughout.
The overall intent is to draw tenants and visitors into the interior of the plan where the elevator and front desk are located by creating a series of parallel lighting elements integrated with the walls. These horizontal elements emphasize the perspective from 19th street that terminates in the verticality for the existing classical columns which separate the elevator doors.
