Truman High School Swimming Pool |
The facility consists of a 75’ 0” six lane high school competition pool with bleachers and related locker rooms and sports faculty offices. The pool area is a double height space made of glazed acoustic concrete block walls with ceramic mosaic pool and deck. Slim strips of blue mirror are set into the glazed walls and reflect lighting and water, providing a horizontal emphasis accentuating the surface of the pool. The ceiling is made of plastered concrete in a coffered pattern.
The bleachers seat 126 people and are made of stainless steel. Three tiers of seating rise to a mezzanine level. They connect to two handicap accessible viewing platforms, which are expressed as monumental dark blue ceramic mosaic masses at each end of the bleachers. These also link the pool to the main circulation system of the school.
The pool deck level gives access to a lower floor of school circulation, to the locker rooms, and to offices for the life guard and swim coach. Mechanical systems of the pool are located in the cellar below the pool.
